Top Brazilian shop avoids award shows in 2009
Campaign Brief Asiahas just received this message from Fabio Fernandes (pictured) President /Creative Director of F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi, Brazil, obviouslyin response to the world economic crisis, which should worry the Cannesorganisers….
F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi and the festivals of 2009
In 2009, F/Nazca will not submit its pieces to any festival that charges registration fees.
Ourdecision is in line with a broader objective for the agency in 2009–tofocus on the qualification of our professionals, their well-being,agency growth, expansion of our facilities and double our attention oneverything that is really the core of our business.
F/Nazca has absolutely nothing against advertising awards and does notagree with those that find them irrelevant or harmful to the business. To the contrary, the agency owes much of its reputation to thevisibility reached through these local and international contests, which have, consistently and frequently, recognized F/Nazca’s creativequality.
Therefore, our decision merely reflects our feeling that 2009 should bea year to channel our resources to that which will more rapidly turnF/Nazca into an even bigger agency, even more professional, even morehuman and, because of that, even more wanted by advertisers andtalented professionals in our market.
Next year, we will resume participation in festivals with all ourstrength, as we have always done. Because we are very intense ineverything we do.

President / Creative Director

Agencies that make that decision usually know they haven’t got much to enter this year. Gives them a year to get some good ads out.
“Haven’t got much to enter’….scammers always have stuff to enter. Because it takes just one flash to come up with an idea. This might have something to do with er…good business sense.
Bullshit.
Good business sense for an agency from Brasil IS to enter awards.
They don’t have anything to enter this year, plain and simple.
I agree with 4.14. They got zip to enter.
Bob Isherwood would be shaking his head in disbelief at this decision. It’s a cop out. Cannes is everything to Saatchi and they have said it for years. They made the festival what it is today.
Why not just enter your 3 best campaigns? It won’t mean you axe any people and if they are good enough they will still win a few gold lions.
This “we are not entering because we are being good corporate citizens” is a load of PR shit. Totally disbelievable from any Saatchi agency.
The recession has hit every budget. We all know that. Travel budget are cut to zero and we have cut 25-40% off everything else and that includes awards entries. But to sit back and say “we are not entering any awards show” when you have been doing so for so many years that you have lost count is a total cop out.
It means your CFO has got the upper hand and you don’t have the balls (or the ads). Saatchi, bring back Bob Isherwood.
Agree with you 100% 5.09. Wouldn’t have happened under Bob Isherwood’s tenure.
Hail Sir Bob.
4:14 is right on. Saatchi all of a sudden acting like a “good corporate citizen”? Bollocks.
Kind of makes sense now why Bob Isherwood is not around any more. You cant have an agency that makes lots of awards and no money….its just not a sound business model…LOL.
