An Indoor Peek at Outdoor Judging (Day 3)

VictorNg did such a great job with his daily reports from the Clio Awardsjudging this year that we cheekily couldn’t resist asking him again inCannes. Victor, Euro RSCG Singapore’s Executive Creative Director is sitting on theOutdoor Lions jury and this is his DAY TWO report.

Every great movie has a killer quote that immortalises itself into urban parlance.

From Arnie’s reliable “I’ll be back” to Vader’s informative “Luke, I am your father”, from Peter Parker’s wise “With great power comes great responsibility” to Forrest Gump’s sweet “Life is a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get” – the quotes defines the film. But enough about my DVD collection already.

Going by these overheard quotes from the jurors today, the sequel “12Angry Men and a Woman” is making a date with next year’s Cannes. FilmFestival, that is.

(Juror defending a shortlisted poster)

“I really like the way the bread embraces the butter. It’s very human.”

(The same juror, on another shortlisted poster)

“I’d be really embarrassed to explain how did this get into the shortlist.”

(On comprehension of an ad)

“That’s the way I understood it.”

“Yes, but why did you understand it that way?”

(On message one ad was sending to young people)

“There are many ways to enjoy one’s body, and it doesn’t have to be…penetration.”

(Jury manager to jury on the privilege vote)

“You are allowed to bring back one entry that you think should have made the shortlist. But it must not be from your agency.”

(Collective moan all around)

(Juror hastily coming into the room after a cigarette break)

“Which ad are we talking about here?”

“Oh nothing, we’re bringing back your butter ad.”

(We didn’t.)
