The Times of India – God’s own traffic jam
This satire celebrates the competitive spirit of the Modern Malayalee. A Day in the Life of Kerala is an authentic news commentary on the state of Kerala today, where competition breeds chaos between Communism and Capitalism.
Like the metaphor of Indian crabs in a can, it’s always been Brother versus Brother, Neighbour versus Neighbour, Left party versus Right party, Left bank versus Right Bank.
The day begins with a political stand-off between the left party and right party on two boats that crash into each other and soon the river is blocked fom left bank to right bank, creating a bottleneck in the backwaters, and hundreds of boats lie moored in a crazy traffic jam, stuck like Indian crabs in a can.
The soundtrack is satirical poetry narrated in the local folk musical form by Kalabhavan Mani, in this revival of the ancient ‘Naadan Paatu’ Folk news narrative tradition of Kerala.
