DDB New York hires former Singapore-based creative Andrew McKechnie as group creative director to oversee global Reebok account
Former Singapore-based creative, Andrew McKechnie, has joined DDB New York as group creative director, effective immediately. In this new position, McKechnie will oversee the global Reebok account, where he will be responsible for leading the creative output. He reports directly to Matt Eastwood, chief creative officer of DDB New York.
Prior to joining DDB, McKechnie served as executive creative director at Y&R NY, where he led the Land Rover North America, LG Global, United States Olympic Committee, and Footaction accounts. During this time, he helped launch the Team USA “Raise Our Flag” integrated campaign for the London 2012 Olympic Games. His prior work on LG Electronics garnered Gold medals at LIA and AICP, including numerous honors at D&AD, Cannes and New York Festivals.
Says Eastwood: “Andrew is a star in the advertising world. He has won numerous creative awards, and he’s also had experience running large, global pieces of business. That makes him unique, and perfect to run the global Reebok account.”
Says McKechnie: “I can’t wait to be part of the reinvention that’s in motion at DDB New York. They have depth of talent, the work is bold, and there is a clear focus on craft. I’ve been admiring Matt’s work for a long time so I’m excited to have the opportunity to finally work together.”
Originally from New Zealand, McKechnie started his career as a copywriter in Asia, where he worked at a wide-range of shops including FCB, JWT and BBDO. He also spent time at Modernista! before moving to New York.
Over the last decade, McKechnie has won Gold medals at almost every international award show, including Cannes, The One Show, Clio, ADC, Young Guns, AICP, and AdFest, and garnered numerous honors at D&AD, SXSW, Communication Arts, New York Festivals, Spikes Asia, Effies, The Gunn Report, and others. He is the 2007 recipient of the 4As Young Professional of The Year award and was named one of the Top 12 Young Creatives in the world at the Clio International Awards the same year.
In January 2013 DDB was selected as Reebok’s global agency of record and is currently working on creative that will break in 2014.
