Advice on Advice: Take It or Leave It
There’s a tonne of advice out there for juniors wanting to break into the industry — books, blogs, and people wanting to give you their two cents. But advice comes from experience, and experiences are personal. Which means there’s a lot of conflicting advice out there. Wait for your ideas to come
So many Creatives are inward-looking people: introverted and introspective. Which is tough when it comes to brainstorming (on the spot) with a group or partner. A lot of creative people say their best ideas come to them when they’re not thinking. Performing formulaic tasks, where process is linear. Unfortunately deadlines don’t care much for that, and neither will the rest of your team. Which will mean you’ll have to strap yourself to the beast, and come up with bucket loads of hogwash, until, oh, OK, you’ve got some stuff. Maybe they won’t be as good as the stuff you’d come up with whilst chewing on your trousers. But at least you’ll have a basis for comparison.
