5 D&AD Nominations for BBDO/Proximity Malaysia

BBDO/Proximity Malaysia is the world’s second most nominated agency at this year’s prestigious D&AD Awards with their highly-acclaimed Jeep print work picking up five Nominations.

The campaign titled “Bushman/Eskimo” and “Husky/Camel” got two Nominations in the Art Direction – Poster category and single nominations in the Poster Campaign, Poster – Point of Sale and Art Direction – Press categories.

In total agencies and design studios from our region picked up 27 Nominations.

Dentsu Tokyo picked up 3 Nominations. Other multiple winners were McCann Worldgroup Hong Kong with two (Nike Basketball), GT Inc Tokyo got two for Sagami Condom “Love Distance’, Projector Tokyo two for UNIQLO and Asylum Creative Singapore won two in Environmental Design.

Single Nominations recipients are: Lowe Bangkok, BBH Singapore, Hakuhodo Kettle Tokyo, Dentsu Kansai, JWT Shanghai, JWT Beijing, Work Advertising Singapore, Good Design Tokyo, Masami Design Tokyo and Bascule Tokyo.

Of the 20,000 pieces of work judged, 717 entries have gone In-Book and will be included in the D&AD Annual as a record of the best work in advertising and design this year.  Yellow & Black Pencils will be announced at the D&AD Awards Ceremony & Dinner in London on 11 June. The Annual will be published in September.

Environmental Design and TV & Cinema Crafts lead the nominations, with 14 from each jury.

The Graphic Design Jury selected the most work to go In-Book, with 112 entries – 13 of which were nominated, followed by Poster Advertising with 75 entries – 11 of which were nominated.

“I felt a touch of apprehension before judging began, especially so in a ‘recession year’.  Will the work be good enough? Have slashed budgets cut creativity to the bone?  The results so far show that’s not the case,” said D&AD President Garrick Hamm.  “D&AD is famous for it’s tough standards, but this crop of nominations shows that the industry continues to produce great work.  Will that translate into a record-breaking number of Pencils at the ceremony?  That remains to be seen.”

Black Pencil Judging will take place on 7 & 8 May in London. Three Black Pencil juries are made up of the Foreman and one other member of each original jury. Black Pencils are extremely rare and exist to award those pieces of truly groundbreaking work that redefine their medium. In some years no Black Pencils are awarded.
