Dentsu moves up in The Gunn Report as both Thailand and Singapore slide down the rankings
Dentsu (Tokyo and Osaka) has moved up from 11th position in last year’s The Gunn Report to rank 3rd overall in the Most Awarded Advertising Agencies in the World in “traditional media” table. Dentsu’s total was 28 points for awards won throughout 2009 on Suntory Boss, Dunlop Tyres, Softbank Mobile, Carré de Chocolat, Secom Home Security, Toyota IQ and Daiwa Securities.
Only Almap BBDO Sao Paulo and DDB London with 31 and 41 points respectively bettered Dentsu’s total. Dentsu also figured prominently in the Most Awarded Agencies in the World in Interactive chart, where they ranked in equal 5th position.
As a country Japan continued to perform well in The Gunn Report but thesame can’t be said for Thailand and Singapore. Japan remained in 5thplace overall with 111 points and Thailand, 8th last year andpreviously in the Top 10 for 10 years out of 10, slumped to 15thposition with just 37 points (exactly half of their 2008 tally of 74).And Singapore, 13th last year (but with 5 previous top 10 rankings totheir credit) slumped to 20th position with only 19 points, by fartheir lowest points total ever. One factor in this is that bothThailand and Singapore scored hardly any points at all in Interactiveand All Gunns Blazing charts.
No surprise with the Top 2. USA ranked first with 387 points followedby Great Britain with 261 points. Same as it has been for every one ofthe 11 years of The Gunn Report – except for 2006 when Great Britainsnatched top spot. Rankings 3, 4 and 5 in the Table were exactly thesame as last year. Argentina came 3rd with 141 points. Germany held 4thposition with 117 points, and Japan 5th.
Figures for Malaysia and India are not disclosed but Australia ranked10th and China had its highest placed finish at No.13 overall. Taiwancame 22nd.

I can’t work out why Singapore is going so bad lately. I work in Australia and always I see Singapore as a must work at destination. Why is Malaysia so much better? Why has Thailand gone off the boil?
Thailand is no longer the land of smiles. Political and economic upheaval has made them loose their sense of humor and this reflects in their clients and the work they approve.
Singapore is a lost cause it seems. No one is trying here. Saatchi have lost it and ogilvy is no where near as good as when Tham Khai Meng was there.
