Grey Delhi has appointed Amit Shankar as Executive Creative Director and Creative Head.

Shankar’s 15-year career spans just a handful of agencies, with lengthy tenures at Contract and Percept, and an earlier stint at Grey. At Contract, he was responsible for a team that worked extensively on Domino’s Pizza, Whirlpool home appliances, NIIT and SET WET range of deodorants. He also spearheaded the launch of NIIT Edgeineers and NetworkLabs, developed the creative for the relaunch of Microsoft Windows XP in India, as well as relaunched Honda’s corporate image for motorcycles and scooters.

Shankar has won several national and international creative awards which have been featured extensively in Lurzer’s Archive. His creative work for Jivanjor adhesives was the first Indian piece of creative to feature on the cover of Archive. He won the India Today award for his work on the ‘My India My Pride’ campaign.

“This is going to be a bit of a homecoming for me actually,” said Shankar. “Grey was where I learned much as a junior from some exceptional minds in the business. Now it’s a privilege for me to lead the place. I am also looking forward to working with Malvika and Amit who are incredibly talented people and have a great vision for Grey, as well as Ketan, who I have worked with before. Grey does have some really good clients and I am looking forward to working alongside them.”

Jishnu Sen, COO, Grey India, said, “Amit joining is part of the overall strategy of building a really strong Creative Team. It also coincides with our Delhi operation picking up steam. We have very ambitious plans for Delhi and I am looking forward to Amit working with Ketan Desai in an effort to realise that ambition.”

Grey India’s NCD Amit Akali said, “The Delhi office is clearly going to be a focus for us. In the past, there’s some fabulous work that’s come out of there, including Incredible India and Orbit Chewing gum. There’s no reason that can’t happen again. Hiring an experienced hand like Amit Shankar as Creative Head is a step in that direction. I’m sure he’ll make a great partner for Ketan Desai who has just joined as branch head.”

Joint NCD Malvika Mehra added, “Amit, besides being really good at his craft, whether it is art direction or penning down some fabulous scripts, has the right experience and attitude to lead the creative team in our Delhi office. With Grey Delhi having recently picked up some new businesses and Ketan Desai having come in as branch head, Amit’s entry as Creative Head only strengthens Grey’s team in Delhi. I’m looking forward to some kick-ass work from this office.”
