Breakdown of Asia’s winning performance at last night’s 2010 London International Awards

Bono.jpgThis year saw a resurgence of the power of more traditional media at the London International Awards. There were only two Grand LIAs out of a potential thirteen awarded at the 2010 London International Awards. Almap BBDO Brasil was the recipient of the Print Grand LIA.  Ogilvy Johannesburg was the recipient of the Television/Cinema/Online Film Grand LIA.

Almap BBDO Brasil won the Grand LIA and a Gold Statue in Print – Consumer Campaign for Billboard Magazine with their work titled, “Bono,” “Amy”, “Eminen”, “Marilyn” and “Britney”.

Ogilvy Johannesburg won the Grand LIA and a Gold Statue in Television/Cinema/Online Film – Public Service/Social Welfare spot titled “Selinah” .

“Winning a Grand LIA in this year’s Show is huge. Especially when you consider that only two were awarded out of a potential thirteen,” remarked Barbara Levy, President of LIA. “It was obvious this year that the juries were looking for ground-breaking, innovative work. It was commented on repeatedly, by the jurors that the work showcased in the Annual not only be creative, but must also engage the consumer and set new boundaries.”

In terms of Asian performances Japan dominated with 7 Gold, 2 Silver and 9 Bronze Statues. See separate story.

Here’s how the rest of Asia performed:

TAIWAN

Bates Taiwan was the only agency from Taiwan to win a Statue – a Gold for their Illustration Campaign entry for 4A Yahoo! Creative Awards titled “Tian It Ng”, “Nick Lam”, “Sonal Dabral” and “Polly Chu”.

Indian Agencies picked up seven Statues including a Gold, three Silvers and three Bronzes.

McCann Worldgroup Mumbai won India’s only Gold Statue at the 2010 London International Awards for Design – Point-of-Sale for Bachpan Bachao “The Crying Carpet”. (see left)

Leo Burnett Mumbai won two Silver Statues:

• Design – Point-of-Sale for Whisper “Wrapper”

• Print – Copywriting for Awareness for Bhopal Victims

They also attained a Finalist for Print – Consumer Campaign

Ogilvy & Mather Mumbai won a Silver Statue:

• Television/Cinema/Online Film – Public Service/Social Welfare Campaign for Ring The Bell Against Domestic Violence

Bates 141 Mumbai won a Bronze Statue:

• Print – Illustration Campaign for STAEDTLER Pens “Man on the Moon”, “Bell Calling” and “Conquering Mt. Everest”

Creativeland Asia won a Bronze Statue:

• Design – Use of Typography Campaign for Medimix Handmade Soap “Herbs”, “Machinery” and “What Man Dirties”

Rediffusion Dentsu Y&R Mumbai won a Bronze Statue:

• Package Design – Beverages-Non-Alcoholic for Rasna.

SINGAPORE

Y&R Singapore won two Silver Statues in Print – Art Direction for the Mint Museum of Toys and a Bronze for the same client in Print – Use of Illustration.

DDB Singapore won a Bronze Statue in Print – Consumer Campaign “Rough Guides Budget Travel.”

Ace Saatchi & Saatchi won a Gold Statue and two Silver Statues:

• Gold – Print – Automotive for Vespa “Hug” (see left)

• Silver – Print – Copywriting Campaign for Vespa “Leaves”, “Hug”, “70 Miles” and “Bus”

• Silver – Print – Consumer Campaign for Vespa “Leaves”, “Hug”, “70 Miles” and “Bus”

 

TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno, Makati City won a Silver Statue

• Design – Posters for Shangrila “Touch – Small Table, Touch – Big Table”

 

DDB DM9JaymeSyfu, Makati City attained a Finalist in Poster – Automotive

THAILAND

Creative Juice\Bangkok (TBWA) won the hat trick with three Statues for 3M.  They won a Gold Statue in Print – Office Equipment for their ad titled “Marble”; a Silver Statue for the same client in Poster – Household Products and a Bronze in Print – Consumer Campaign.

Ogilvy & Mather Bangkok was the other Statue Winner, with a Bronze in Design – Corporate Identity for Papyrus – Second Hand Book Store.

They also attained three Finalists two in Print and one in Television/Cinema/ Online Film.

The following Thai agencies have attained Finalist status:

• JEH United Bangkok in Television/Cinema/Online Film – Cosmetics/Toiletries /Pharmaceuticals

• Leo Burnett and Arc Worldwide Bangkok in Print – Consumer Campaign

• Lowe Bangkok i
n Design – Direct Mail-Consumer and Radio – Automotive.

INDONESIA

Leo Burnett/Arc was honoured with a Bronze Statue in Radio – Telecommunications for their spot for Telkomsel titled “Brain”

Ogilvy Jakarta won a Bronze in Print – Personal/Gift Items for Fuji Quicksnap Marine titled “Feet”

Publicis Indonesia won a Bronze in Non-Traditional – Public Service/Social Welfare for Jatam titled “Mud-Flow”

CHINA

BBH China, Shanghai won a Bronze Statue

• Design – Use of Typography for Nanshan Bywise Infant Formula Milk Powder “ABCDance Cards”

 

SenseTeam, Shenzhen win a Bronze Statue:

• Design – Use of Typography for GDC “X Exhibition”

 

Ogilvy Shanghai was the only Chinese agency to attain a Finalist. They accomplished this with their Print Campaign for Midea Security Camera.

HONG KONG

DDB Hong Kong/Tribal DDB Hong Kong attained two Finalists for Print Consumer Campaign.  Their Consumer Campaigns for Freshlock and Penguin Books were the only Print Finalists from Hong Kong.

 

Grey Hong Kong attained Finalist status in Design – Editorial Design for Re:spect Magazine

MALAYSIA

Ogilvy & Mather Kuala Lumpur was the only agency in Malaysia to attain a Finalist. They were awarded a Finalist by the Print Jury in the category of Cosmetics/Toiletries/Pharmaceuticals for their Dequadin Lozenges ad.

VIETNAM

Grey Group Vietnam was the only agency in the country to achieve a Finalist status. They attained the recognition for their campaign for Nha Xinh Furniture in Print.
