LIA Judging in Las Vegas: Marcus Rebeschini’s first two days on the 2011 Non-Traditional, Print, Poster and Billboard jury
Y&R Asia Regional ECD Marcus Rebeschini (pictured back row in the middle) is one of four Asian-based jurors sitting on the London International Awards 2011 Non-Traditional, Print, Poster, Billboard Jury that judged all last week at the Encore Hotel in Las Vegas. Here he gives a short rundown of the first two days judging.
So I just bumped into Campaign Brief Asia’s Kim Shaw at 11:53pm and he asked me if I could jot down my thoughts on today’s LIA judging (whilst he walked off to play homage to the “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” motto).
Whilst he goes off to tear up the Vegas strip, I’ll get straight into it as it’s getting late; LIA has some good crew on the jury panel I’m on. Mr Grand Prix himself Yang Yeo, Thirasak Tanapatanakul, David Guerrero, Sarah Barkley, Pablo Del Campo, Jeremy Craigen, Götz Ulmer, Anthony Chelvanathan and Jayanta Jenkins.
After just reviewing the finalist list the above mentioned seem to be really harsh on the work. It’s always nice to be on a panel where all the work feels solid and stuff you’d wished you had in your own book.
The work overall is pretty much the expected, with a few new comers that are pretty cool. Overall from the 90 countries that entered I am seeing lots of ads with people hugging, lots of ads made of edible paper, lots of ads where creatives have made 3D images flat and the good old Kaleidoscope effect. From Asia, seeing some good stuff from Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia (hint hint). A few ideas from Asia fell short due to no video entries to accompany the boards.
That’s about it for now as still early days; but before I sign off thought I would add a photo of what Kim got up to whilst we judged.
Mahalo.
