Fresh meat in Manila for DM9 JaymeSyfu
One of the most-awarded agencies in the Philippines, DM9 JaymeSyfu has been doing their bit to develop new talent in the industry. DMNi9ht Fresh Meat is one of the agency’s efforts to help students nationwide to renew interest in the industry.
In one night, 3rd and 4th year students were invited from seven topflight universities to present their portfolios to be critiqued by the agency’s Creative Leaders: Merlee Jayme, Eugene Demata, Louie Sotto, Jerry Hizon, Gogie Sinson, Herbert Hernandez, and Allan Montayre. The event rounded up a herd of 40 from Bulacan State University, University of Asia and the Pacific, De La Salle University-College of St. Benilde, University of the Philippines, University of Sto. Tomas, University of the East, and Lyceum.
“The purpose is for students to show us what they’ve got: their ideas and guts and we’re there to prepare them for a future job in advertising through constructive criticism,” says Merlee Jayme, DM9 JaymeSyfu CEO and Chief Creative Officer. “You’d be surprised to see really good, promising work. Just add a little confidence, they’ll be good to go,” she adds with delight.
With an impressive collection that included a series on drunk driving, as well as ads for WWF and other animal rights, and one for a leading business daily, the Creative leaders named Sie Macha of Lyceum the DMNi9ht Fresh Meat Rookie of the Year.
In the finalist roster are Liz Castaneda from UST, Kevin Mayuga from Ateneo, Karl Nylander of Rain Creative Lab, fresh grad and new-hire, Sarah Jean Rivera from Lyceum, and Xavier Virata, also from Ateneo.
Along with Jayme, DM9 agency people take turns teaching advertising in Bulacan State University. The CEO herself also teaches in the University of Asia and the Pacific. All these efforts are part of the creative agency’s passion to inspire more students to take up Advertising in College.
