Mitsudera has received numerous awards, best represented by the double-awarding in 2009 Cannes of the Grand Prix in Promo/Activation category as well as the Gold Lion in the PR category for the “Yubari Fusai Project,” aimed at revitalizing the financially challenged Yubari City. He is active domestically and internationally as a member of award show juries such as those for Cannes, CLIO and Adfest. At age 36, MItsudera’s appointment to the most senior creative position is significant recognition of young talent.

Mitsudera joined a domestic advertising agency as a new graduate, and spent six years as a CM planner in its creative department. In the nine years since he joined beacon/Leo Burnett Tokyo, he has produced many strong campaigns for local and global brands such as McDonald’s, Meiji Confectionary, Home-tutoring Try, Onitsuka Tiger, Japanet Takata, Keio Railways, etc. In addition, he has successfully led the acquisition of new foreign-affiliated brands, including Symantec / Norton and Lenovo.

Mitsudera has also taken an active role within beacon/Leo Burnett Tokyo to encourage young creative talent to demonstrate and hone their creativity. An example of this being the “beacon Act project,” where proactive proposals are developed by the creative teams to present to potential clients based on creative inspirations and ideas.

Nicolas Menat, president and representative director, beacon/Leo Burnett Tokyo, commented on this new appointment. “The objective behind this new assignment is to create a leadership structure which will support us in building the brand’s Human Purpose, changing people’s behavior through beacon’s creatives’ unique and effective ideas. For this I have selected a passionate and brilliantly talented young leader. I look forward to seeing him join hands with his partner ECD, Jon King, to bring together the best of east and west which can only be delivered by beacon, to produce amazing creative work.”
