Batey and Qatar Airways launch Tweet-A-Meet
Qatar Airways, one of the world’s fastest growing airlines, has paired up with Batey Singapore (part of Grey Group) to launch the first Twitter race across the world by a global airline.
Qatar Airways’ ‘Tweet-a-Meet’ is a social media campaign where a team of two can turn their virtual connections into real ones by receiving ‘tweet miles’ with every tweet they send containing information on their selected destination. The first three teams with the highest number of tweets at the end of the race will each win a pair of business class tickets to a Qatar Airways’ destination of their choice.
With social media ubiquity, making new friends across continents and staying connected with loved ones wherever they are in the world is just a mouse click away. The ‘Tweet-A-Meet’ campaign aims to take that wired connection one level further. It empowers Tweeters to take these connections from online to offline, meeting in a Qatar Airways destination of their choice.
In Tweet-a-Meet, netizens have to log on to Qatar Airways’ micro-site and register for the race with their Twitter account. They then select a race companion from their list of Twitter followers to participate with and to eventually meet in-person. An invitation is sent to the chosen companion via Twitter and email. Upon acceptance of the contest invite, teammates then select one of Qatar Airways’ over 100 destinations as their meeting point.
Once the race has begun, the pair will have to use teamwork to find travel tips on their selected destination to tweet about. Participants will be able to track their progress and see how they are faring against other teams on a leaderboard on the official micro-site. By the end of the race, the top three teams with the highest number of tweets are set to embark on their dream destination for real, on Qatar Airways’ award-winning business class.
Contestants who do not make it to the top three still stand a chance to win one of five pairs of Qatar Airways Economy Class tickets to their dream destination in a lucky draw.
A Qatar Airways spokesperson said that they believed in connecting customers through social media platforms like Twitter. “A good percentage of our bookings come from web channels, so we know most of our passengers are very social media savvy. As a result, Qatar Airways is eager to use different types of technology to reach out to our customers.”
“With Tweet-A-Meet, Qatar Airways wants to provide a social media platform that connects people wherever they are and rewards them for it.”
Ali Shabaz, (pictured above) Chief Creative Officer, Grey Group, Singapore, Thailand & Indonesia said, “The idea was simple. Leverage on online global connectivity and create a fun and interactive competition for people to do what they like best – plan and take a dream vacation with a loved one.”
Registration for Qatar Airways’ Tweet-A-Meet race began on 1st July 2012. The race flags off on 15th July and ends on 24th July 2012.
