Cannes Lions tally vs Olympic medal tally
Have you ever wondered which countries rank highest in terms of success at both Cannes and the Olympics?
You probably haven’t – because if you have, you definitely need to get out a bit more…
But, just for a bit of fun, Campaign Brief Asia has combined the number of medals won by countries at the London Olympics (so far) with the total number of Lions won by countries at Cannes 2012.
As would be expected, the USA (#1 at Cannes, #2 at Olympics) lead the combined tally, with 252 gongs, followed by the UK (#2 at Cannes, #3 at Olympics) with 137 and Germany (#3 at Cannes, #7 at Olympics) with 112.
China’s #1 spot at the Olympics (#22 at Cannes) ensures they lead Asia Pacific at #5 spot, just ahead of Australia at #6 followed by Japan at #7. South Korea comes in at #11.
CB Asia’s priorities may be wrong but you’d hope, deep down, your country’s sporting total outranked your Cannes Lions total.
CB Asia will do a final tally on the last day of Olympic competition – just for fun.

Great post, CB, though it proves that China is better at gymnastics than award contortions – and I don’t think the final tally will change that.
In breaking news, Kazakhstan will boycott the next Olympics because the Colombian judges were biased and kept all the cocaine to themselves, but will re-consider their boycott if Terry Savage makes Borat jury president in the lesser Winter Olympics. That way they finally get some awar – errrrr, snow.
So let’s just imagine that in the Olympics you could just enter with a form and self made video as proof of performance.
Would the judges just “take their word” for a sub 9sec 100 metre?
