In the lead up to next month’s Cannes Lions Festival, Campaign Brief Asia will be showcasing work from some of Asia’s top agencies that we hope will impress the judges…

Leo Burnett Sri Lanka

The process of reconciliation following the end of Sri Lanka’s 30-year civil war was far from complete. Ada, a mass-market daily newspaper, wanted to do more so to reach out to two communities who spoke completely different languages we created Sri Lanka’s first bilingual newspaper. Launched during the country’s traditional New Year, the one event celebrated by both communities, the ‘Unity Paper’ was promoted using a unique teaser campaign that united similar-sounding characters from the alphabets of the two languages and engaged 15% of all Sri Lankan Facebook users.

There are as many as 40,000 children living with Cerebral Palsy in Sri Lanka today. Many families do not know to take care of children with the disease and, because of a stigma associated with disabilities, go so far as to hide their child away. Featuring a child afflicted with Cerebral Palsy who can only communicate with the aid of a whistle, this campaign made aware that there is a way to help sufferers live a better, and more fulfilling life.

To show that Peros makes anything clean, this unconventional campaign for dishwash liquid features a central ‘unclean’ character in an unsavoury situation covering his face with a spotless white plate because he thinks its purity will absolve him of his crime.
