But advice comes from experience, and experiences are personal. Which means there’s a lot of conflicting advice out there. I never really understood why people refer to a piece of work as their “baby”. Yes, it’s something you’ve created. But who’s it for… yourself or the client? Our job isn’t about self-expression, indulgence or catharsis. We’re briefed to solve a business problem. Which means it’s their baby, not yours. If you want to paint your own portrait, and have someone buy it, you should hit up a gallery. They’re always looking for stuff like that.
