Parents take centre stage for call for entries to Singapore’s Creative Circle gong show

Before it was about amassing shiny collectibles, excessive pats on the back, and over the top beach parties, there was only one reason for an agency creative to bag an award – The need to impress a tough jury otherwise known as Mom and Dad.
So to call for entries into Singapore’s Creative Circle Awards, DDB Group Singapore went back to the past.
Parents of homegrown creatives like Thomas Yang (Deputy ECD – DDB Group), Pann Lim (ECD – Kinetic), Pat Law (Founder – Goodstuph), Sheng Jin Ang (CD, Lowe), and Jon Loke (CD, Y&R) starred in the campaign.
While via the website, industry folks are also able to share their own quips about their parents.

So Campaign Agency of the Year 2012 featured mums of agency folk in their ads. Nice idea, so DDB decided to try out a year later.
Nothing new here, it was done in Perth by the PADC for their 2011 Make Them Proud call to entry campaign. This one in the series features then PADC President Andrew Tinning’s parents.

omg it was done before?!!!! Catastrophic… Get over it guys. It was nice seeing these parents placed in the limelight. Just enjoy the moment.
Yes the idea isn’t new.
In fact it’s too recent to be reused or recycled. (Bway Pai Seh. Ah?)
But it’s really charming and sincere to listen to parents beaming in the local ‘praise via scolding’ ways.
‘Thumbs up’ to all the parents who participated.(Ho Say!)
‘Thumbs down’ to those who thought this was an original way to celebrate local originality for the creative community. ( Buay sai-lah!)
Where are all the People that actually made a difference in Singapore advertising? The expat creatives? The best Singaporean creatives can do is aid (on photoshop) the brilliant foreign talent in creating good campaigns.
All the best local creatives have left Singapore for better things.
Maybe Singapore should just scrap CCA judging by the kind of comments seen here. Maybe should just host a bitter haters convention. Then again, it would be hated upon.
@bitter nation. Smile. I think you will find a couple of these comments above were made in jest. It is a bit of a shame we couldn’t come up with an original concept for the call for entries but I suppose there has been 100s of these types of campaigns before
A terrible to a start for an award show that is meat to celebrate original thought in creativity. But keep telling yourself it’s cute and it’s okay. The truth is, it’s too late to change it.
PS: Why does the dreaded ‘thumbs up’ have to show up in every candid singapore video? It’s so crass.
