JohnSPark2.jpgUPDATED STORY: The Sweet Shop has announced the addition of John S. Park (left) to their team of directors. The Sweet Shop now represent John S. Park exclusively across Asia except for Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand – where he is represented by Applebox Asia – and his home country of Korea.

Skilled in multiple disciplines, the Korean-American director boasts an impressive resume of commercial, documentary, and short form content distinctive for its mixing of both Eastern and Western advertising traditions.

With experience in the culture and flavors of both markets, Park’s work has been able to successfully merge the narrative and storytelling focus popular in the West with the image-driven content that has become a hallmark of the East. The result is a body of evocative, sensory work complimented by powerfully visual technique.

Recently, Park garnered a lot of attention with his highly acclaimed Samsung commercial entitled “What Does The Mind See?” The documentary style spot follows a group of eleven blind students as they are encouraged to shoot photographs based on scent, sound, and texture alone. The thought-provoking and affective piece received numerous recognitions upon release including a Grand Prix at Spikes Asia and two Gold Lion at Cannes.

Says Park: “The Sweet Shop is a company with a strong and diverse voice. Its drive towards creativity and openness caught my eye years back, and it is fantastic to be part of the team. I feel very privileged to be a part of The Sweet Shop and look forward to making great projects together.”

Born in Korea, Park spent his formative years in Los Angeles where he studied Philosophy and Visual Communication/Media Design at UCLA.  Upon graduating, he enrolled in a graduate film program at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California where his short films and spec work earned him immediate attention from agents and producers as well as regular work on both the North American and Asian continents.

Says Claire Davidson, executive producer: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have John join our roster at The Sweet Shop. His skills, his aesthetic and his vision shine through on every level encapsulating all elements of his profound body of work as a filmmaker. John is a very special and a very rare kind of director.”

Says Paul Prince, The Sweet Shop’s CEO/founding partner: “John is an incredible filmmaker. A true master of the form, his dedication to craftsmanship has given him the ability to create truly beautiful stories that are second to none. I’m both honored and excited that John has chosen The Sweet Shop to represent him internationally.”

Park’s signing is yet another indicator of The Sweet Shop’s ongoing commitment to growing talent with a strong voice and unique style across all parts of the globe.
