“Clio Image was launched to highlight and celebrate the impressive creative work happening in the fashion, beauty and retail industries,” says CLIO Executive Vice President Nicole Purcell. “Getting to toast these inspirational agencies and brands at our first event made for a great night in the ad industry.”
Clio Image Award winners represent a diversity of talents, with breakthrough work chosen by a founding jury comprised of creative elite such as FEED’s Lauren Bush Lauren, Warby Parker’s Neil Blumenthal, Target’s Todd Waterbury, Larid + Partners’ Trey Laird, Banana Republic’s Catherine Sadler and Estée Lauder’s Sheila Choi.
The Clio Image Awards, with media partner Women’s Wear Daily, included three types of recognition: the CLIO Image Award recognizing finest creative work in the fashion and beauty industries; the Honorary Clio Image Award recognizing a career of creative contributions; and the Grand Clio Image Award recognizing work that demonstrates ahead-of-the-curve thinking. Actress, designer and humanitarian Sarah Jessica Parker accepted the 2014 Honorary Clio Image Award.
The ceremony included a special presentation for Achievement in Fashion Photography by The Hollywood Reporter property Pret-a-Reporter to Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Inez and Vinoodh received the inaugural honor for their instantly recognizable, fearless aesthetic and close-knit relationship with Hollywood and the entertainment industry in general, having captured great talents including Sophia Loren, Julianne Moore and Daniel Day-Lewis, directing Lady Gaga’s acclaimed “Applause” video in 2013, and shooting ad campaigns for starlet-favored brands Gucci, Lanvin and Louis Vuitton — to name a few.
The award celebrates emerging or established photographic talent who possesses a notable, recognizable style that furthers the realms of fashion editorial and advertising through a unique body of work. Named after the official digital style section of The Hollywood Reporter, the award honors risk taking and artistry in both commercial and non-commercial environments, thereby allowing clothing, accessories and beauty products to be displayed in fascinating and captivating light no matter the environment or purpose.
