Genuine Music Company in Bangkok scores big

Music Supervisor and composer, John Ferreira, (left) owner of Genuine Music Company, recently completed one of the most complex music supervision jobs they have had in South East Asia, the new OREO campaign which is breaking in 7 languages. The music was composed and recorded in Los Angeles and Chicago. The different languages were recorded in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. All final mixes were done at Genuine Music’s studio in Bangkok.

Genuine Music officially opened in Bangkok in March 2012. Not long after that, Genuine Music Company was working with the Thai Royalty recording and producing a full- length record and DVD for Princess Chulabhorn performing the guzheng alongside a 60-piece orchestra and an 80-piece choir. Right after that a call came in for Genuine Music to do master recordings for the King of Thailand. The performances were by the Vienna Orchestra in Austria of the Kings compositions and also segments of the King-playing saxophone.

Genuine Music Company is the only music company in South East Asia with headquarters in Chicago — where Ferreira founded Genuine Music in 1996. “The idea of opening a Genuine Music Company office in South East Asia was to be able to bring U.S. music talent to our region.” Ferreira said.

As U.S. talent started appearing in South East Asia, so did South East Asia talent for the Chicago office. Genuine Music Company now offers U.S. ad agencies a direct pipeline to Asian music artists and sound designers who have a very different sensibility.

“It has truly been amazing the exchange of talent; having musicians in Indonesia and Singapore perform on tracks for the U.S. market. For example, recently, the Chicago Goodman theatre musicians performed for TV spots in Indonesia”,  he added.

Genuine Music Company is now focusing more on music supervision. “It is important to have the best possible solution for the music for a piece of film. And because music is so subjective it’s great to have a variety of composers do their magic.”

Genuine Music Company believes because of technology, amazing composers and sound designers are now accessible all over the world. However, with that freedom, there is a strong need for the processes to be supervised. These days it needs to be done in parallel with production companies, agencies, clients, and all in a timely manner, because when it comes to all types of production the pace is faster than ever.
