Singapore Cancer Society volunteers and Up & Up’s initiative helps smokers give up for good
Give up for Good, a part anti-smoking, part corporate social responsibility initiative was conceptualised by Up & Up in collaboration with Singapore Cancer Society volunteers.
Volunteers took to the streets on Saturday, 3rd December to get smokers to donate/give up any number of cigarettes willingly.
All the cigarettes that were donated were added up for their street value (at $0.60 a stick) which will be matched or multiplied by corporates like honestbee, Phoon Huat Pte Ltd, Pokka and Yakult in terms of food items and necessities for cancer families.
The target for Give up for Good 2016 was 500 cigarette sticks. The final collection was 1951 sticks of cigarettes (almost 4 times the target) at a street value of $1170.60.
The 1951 sticks of cigarettes were placed in a yellow box before they were stomped on by cancer survivors, volunteers, members of the public led by Albert Ching (CEO, Singapore Cancer Society), and Miss Pauline Png (Chief Marketing Officer, honestbee).
