Director’s Think Tank plays with the first person point of view for Maxis

To show how Maxis’ Zerolution levels up one’s day, Director’s Think Tank shot its latest spot all from the point of view of the talent using a helmet camera.

Directed by Maurice Noone, ‘Always on wherever you go’, showcases Maxis Zerolution elevating one’s day from home, work, and socialising with friends. The package also features the integration 5G, the Apple Watch Series 5, and an iPad.

Camera angles, continuity, and attention to details were key aspects of the shoot to add realism to the point-of-view perspective. Despite the multiple location changes, the team kept a stringent eye to ensure the various cuts in the scenes were seamless. Extensive time was also allocated to familiarising the talent with the helmet camera set-up as the equipment was mounted on the talent himself to capture the first person point-of-view accurately.

Co-Founder and Director at DTT Maurice Noone explained, “I’m glad we were shooting this in 2020 and not ten years ago! With the miniaturisation of technology, we were able to mount a small lightweight camera onto a helmet, coupled with decent small lenses. Even so, once we put on the follow focus and wireless transmitters on, it still wasn’t very comfortable for the talent. Luckily, he had strong neck muscles. I can’t imagine shooting this with a large red cam on someone’s head!”

He continued, “Shooting with Maxis and Apple is always fun as we try to showcase how technology can really improve everyone’s lives. In this case, we tried to give a first person POV of a fun day in the life of an Apple Watch 5 user.”
