UBXED tackles Covid-19 awareness and anti-Asian racism via children’s stories

UBXED (unboxed) is dedicated to topical issues that affect the welfare of children. It was set up as a private project by Shanghai based creative director Kit Ong.

UBXED has illustrated stories tackling a diversity of subjects such as the coronavirus, racism, smartphone addiction, war, immigration, dementia in the family, family ties, school safety, divisiveness, sexual abuse, depression, and identity acceptance.

It attempts to tell stories about sensitive matters with sensitivity. Its stories speak to the adult in the child, and the child in the adult. The central focus of UBXED concerns the cultural and emotional intelligence and welfare of children, and the participation of parents in their children’s life.

So far there are two children’s stories dealing with the awareness of the pandemic and anti-Asian racism due to Covid-19.

“Pair Pairs” is a story on racism and “The Clown that Wears the Crown” ia a story on the pandemic awareness.

A third, an animated short film, being done right now deals with domestic abuse attributed to the effect of lockdowns.

“UBXED is just something that I feel very passionate about doing besides my day job in advertising,” said Kit Ong.
