Dentsu Webchutney India scores four Grand Prix awards at Spikes Asia 2022; DDB Mudra Mumbai, Grey Tokyo, CHE Proximity Sydney + Leo Burnett Sydney each pick up multiple gongs
Australia and India have taken out the most Grand Prix awards at this year’s Spikes Asia, with a total of eight each, followed by Japan with four. Dentsu Webchutney India picked up the most Grand Prix awards by an agency with four for their ‘The Unfiltered History Tour’ campaign for VICE World News.
New Zealand scored two top awards, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia picked up one each.
CHE Proximity Sydney, DDB Mudra Mumbai, Grey Tokyo and Leo Burnett Sydney were awarded each two Grand Prix.
Single Grand Prix winners from Asia were FCB India, Ogilvy Taiwan, Dentsu Inc Tokyo, Dentsu Creative Inc Tokyo, Muma Malaysia, Mediacom Singapore and Wunderman Thompson, Mumbai.
From an initial 3,037 entries from 25 countries, 625 pieces of work made it onto the shortlists. From those shortlisted entries 39 Gold, 79 Silver, 117 Bronze and 11 Spikes where awarded. Australia performed excellently picking up the most awards with 78 awards in total, followed by India in second who received 56 awards.

David Guerrero, Creative Chair of BBDO Guerrero and Jury President for the 2022 Direct and Outdoor Spikes Jury, said: “Throughout the judging we saw some standout trends that included the hi-jacking of space belonging to competitors, product innovation and brand purpose. What particularly impressed the jury with the Direct Grand Prix was the ambition of the VW ad break takeover, using a game. The tactics of buying the first ad in the break and then inviting the audience to skip the rest of it by playing a racing game was smart. We had defined the Direct category as work that gains a measurable response from a defined audience and in the “use of broadcast” this fit that definition perfectly. Here a self-selecting audience of car buyers, by definition people who enjoy driving, were invited to test drive the product at a moment where they would be willing to spend a defined amount of time, missing only the rest of the ads in the break. We found it fun, interactive and irreverent.”
